Well the time has arrived for just about everyone, you too can be somebody they can blame now. I am talking about the current hacker war between rogue teams and big corporations. Bringing Sony to its knees was not an easy task I’m sure, but getting the world to notice and recognize what is really happening was the ultimate accomplishment. Think about identity theft, is big business when the same people that are supposed to keep your information secure, sell it to the highest bidder. And after that, you will want to get protection by buying identity theft products. Hummmmm, I see a pattern here……..
Programmers writing code involved in the Maddox scandal were arrested and currently under trial. More people they can blame now, nobody is safe. This event has everyone stepping away from their keyboards, letting go of the mouse for a minute and listening to the sound of the handcuffs. Eeeeeerie.
Not only the masterminds (MBAs I’m sure, ja!) are getting thrown in jail, but now programmers are being blamed for their actions. We cannot use the excuse of “those were the specs!, right or wrong, those were the specs!”, is now, “That was unethical, therefore must be illegal. And off to jail we go.
So for now on, the next time you get those specs and before you write that first line of code, think and ask yourself, how is this contributing positively to society? Is this something I want to be associated with?, ask why if you have to, and also say no when you need to. It is not worth the headache of hiring a lawyer to defend your stupid pointless excuse, is a gamble you may not want to take.
My point is not to say what ought to be done but instead why we should do more good than harm, the why is the key.
Oh and I was joking about MBA’s, I think you guys are just a ray of sunshine, on a cloudy day!
And it’s a war!
